JANUARY--The St Sylvestre is celebrated in style in the village hall.  The festivities start at 9 pm on the 31st and draw to a close about 12 hours later on the 1st January.  Just over 200 people see in the New Year aided and abetted by the Village Fete Committee.  A slightly bleary committee re-assemble on the 2nd of January to clean and tidy the village hall in time for the « Age d'Or » (Senior Citizens association) to celebrate Epiphany with the traditional Coque des Rois.

The cake has regional variations, in our area it is a yeast based sweet dough ring flavoured with orange flower extract and decorated with crystalized fruit and sugar.  In other areas of France it is pastry based with a frangipan filling and is called the Gallette des Rois.

Hidden inside the cake is a « fève », normally a tiny porcelain charm representing one of the persons from the nativity.
Nothing being sacred these days,  the charms may be based on something slightly less biblical such as Walt Disney or Harry
Potter!!  The person who finds the fève in their piece of cake is King/Queen for the day and is entitled to wear the gold paper crown which comes with the cake.  They are also supposed to purchase the next cake!!
